Getting Veneers

The process for getting veneers usually requires two or three dental visits. Once they are attached to your teeth, they can last 15 years or longer. In fact, with good care, you can expect to enjoy a lifetime of healthy, beautiful smiles. At your appointment with our dentist, we will explain the veneers process step by step so that you will know what to expect.

Designing Your Smile

The first step is the diagnosis and treatment plan. Our dentist will examine your teeth and ensure your candidacy, take X-rays and impressions, and explain your options. You will actively participate in this part of the process as you explain your goals and preferences for your smile.

Preparing Your Teeth

Veneers are a conservative restoration, but they do require some preparation. A small amount of enamel is removed from the tooth to equal the amount of thickness of the veneer to make room for the restoration. You may need some anesthetic to ensure comfort during this process. Once your teeth have been prepared, dental impressions will be taken, which will be sent to a dental lab. The lab makes your new veneers, a process that can take 2 to 4 weeks altogether. Temporary veneers may be placed over your teeth to protect them while you wait.

Finishing Your Smile

When your veneers are ready, our dentist will check the fit and color. If you are completely happy with the way your porcelain veneer looks, we will clean, polish and etch your teeth and then apply a powerful bonding cement to secure the veneers into place. A special light will cure the cement so that it hardens quickly, and you can use your new veneers right away. Good dental hygiene will keep your dental veneers in the best condition.
