Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that can help prevent tooth decay. It works by interfering with the processes of oral bacteria and by strengthening dental enamel, which makes it more resilient against the acidic byproducts of oral bacteria. Our fluoride treatment dentist recommends fluoride toothpaste for most of our patients and supplemental fluoride treatments for those who are at an increased risk of tooth decay or who have undergone certain dental procedures.
Supplemental fluoride may be available in a variety of forms, including rinses, foams, varnishes and tablets. Over-the-counter applications are available in toothpastes and mouth rinses. If you have not had a cavity in three years and have no other risk factors, you may not need a professional fluoride treatment. However, children, those who have a history of cavities, smoke or are otherwise at an increased risk of cavities, have had a whitening treatment, or have undergone enamel reshaping can benefit from additional fluoride.
Our expert in fluoride treatment may also recommend fluoride treatments for others as well, including:
- Those who have poor dental hygiene
- Those who have a history of poor family dental health
- Those with certain enamel defects
- Those with many restorations
- Those with eating disorders
- Those with dry mouth
- Those with braces, periodontal disease or exposed tooth roots
- Those with disabilities that may interfere with good dental hygiene
Children can also benefit from fluoride treatments. Our fluoride treatment dentist may recommend biannual fluoride recommendations for children under the age of six or who are at a high risk of tooth decay.
Once a tooth has suffered decay, it will never be able to be restored 100 percent. Our expert in fluoride treatment focuses on prevention, which means we encourage our patients to brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Flossing removes harmful bacteria and plaque from between your teeth. Biannual checkups and cleanings can ensure your smile stays on the right track, and fluoride treatments offer an added measure of security against tooth decay.

Now I Can Smile Again!
The dentist just made my front teeth/smile look like I had veneers implanted! She took away all my dark spots and heading without crowns and painful implants. It looks amazing! Thank You 🙂
The dentist was very kind + caring. Highly recommend! I only had a few days left on my dental insurance + she helped to prioritize my care + fit me in so that I could get issues taken care of in a pinch. The office manager, couldn't have been sweeter + she helped me to understand the sometimes tricky insurance pieces + actual prices I'd be paying before I made any decisions. A+ experience.
