Wisdom teeth typically appear between the ages of seventeen and twenty-one, but may begin to erupt earlier or later in some people. These teeth are also called third molars, and when they arrive, they can cause pain and discomfort. Ideally, wisdom teeth make their appearance in a roomy jaw and grow at the proper angle, but in reality, these teeth tend to not always erupt properly. When your wisdom teeth begin to erupt, scheduling an appointment with our dentist is important. We can monitor your teeth and make sure that your smile stays healthy.
You can take steps to combat the pain. Saltwater is highly effective at relieving pain, swelling, and inflammation. Dissolve a teaspoon of salt in one cup of warm water, and swish for about a minute before spitting it out. You can repeat this several times a day as needed. Over-the-counter pain medications can also be helpful. However, you will need professional treatment to determine the best way to treat your wisdom tooth pain.
If your wisdom teeth pose a risk to your other teeth, they will likely need to be extracted. Most wisdom teeth are extracted even if they are currently not symptomatic, as they often develop problems over time. Impacted wisdom teeth, or that do not erupt properly, can lead to serious dental problems, including:
- Tooth decay
- Damage to other teeth
- Tooth pain
Wisdom tooth extraction is a common minor surgical procedure that can eliminate many of these issues. After the surgery, you can use cold compresses and medication to manage any remaining wisdom tooth pain. Eating a soft diet is important as the extraction sites heal.
Although not all wisdom teeth need to be extracted, wisdom tooth pain should not be ignored. Impacted wisdom teeth can cause serious dental health problems and affect your smile for life. By removing them, we can protect your smile now and in the future. Call our office today to learn more about eliminating wisdom tooth pain, or to schedule an appointment with our dentist.

I've been going here since 2010 and I love this dental office! It's very convenient to my residence and they offer an array of services! I'm currently under Invisalign treatment and they gave me a great price! I highly recommend them for any of your dental needs!

Now I Can Smile Again!
The dentist just made my front teeth/smile look like I had veneers implanted! She took away all my dark spots and heading without crowns and painful implants. It looks amazing! Thank You 🙂
The dentist was very kind + caring. Highly recommend! I only had a few days left on my dental insurance + she helped to prioritize my care + fit me in so that I could get issues taken care of in a pinch. The office manager, couldn't have been sweeter + she helped me to understand the sometimes tricky insurance pieces + actual prices I'd be paying before I made any decisions. A+ experience.
